Care & Maintenance Guide
お手入れの手引き
Your Juntetsu scissors are precision instruments crafted to last a lifetime. With proper care and maintenance, they will deliver flawless performance for decades, becoming trusted partners in your professional journey.
Daily Care Routine
Clean After Each Client
Wipe blades with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove hair particles and product residue. This prevents buildup that can affect cutting performance and blade alignment.
Dry Thoroughly
Always dry your scissors completely, especially around the pivot area. Even premium steel can develop issues if moisture is allowed to accumulate.
Apply Oil Daily
Place a drop of camellia oil on the pivot point and blade surfaces. Open and close scissors several times to distribute evenly, then wipe excess.
Maintenance Schedule
Task | Frequency | Purpose |
---|---|---|
Clean & Dry | After Each Use | Prevent buildup and corrosion |
Oil Pivot & Blades | Daily | Smooth operation and protection |
Check Tension | Weekly | Optimal cutting performance |
Deep Clean | Monthly | Remove stubborn buildup |
Professional Service | 6-12 Months | Maintain edge geometry |
Tension Adjustment
Proper tension is crucial for scissor performance and longevity. The ideal tension allows smooth cutting without the blades separating during use.
Testing Tension
Hold scissors with tips pointing up. Open blades halfway and release one handle. Properly tensioned scissors will close smoothly to about 1/3 open position.
Adjusting
Use the provided tension key to make small adjustments. Turn clockwise to tighten, counterclockwise to loosen. Make quarter-turn adjustments and test.
Perfect Balance
Scissors should cut cleanly without pushing hair. Too tight causes premature wear and fatigue. Too loose damages the cutting edge.

Recommended Oil
We recommend pure Japanese camellia oil (tsubaki oil) for optimal care. Its unique properties provide superior protection and smooth operation without attracting dust or debris.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Scissors Feel Stiff
Clean pivot area thoroughly and apply oil. If stiffness persists, tension may be too tight or professional cleaning may be needed.
Hair Pushes or Folds
Usually indicates dull blades or incorrect tension. Check tension first, then schedule professional sharpening if needed.
Blades Don't Align
May indicate dropped scissors or worn pivot. Stop use immediately and contact authorized service to prevent further damage.
